One of the largest dams in KwaZulu-Natal, Albert Falls Dam is a popular playground for sailors, canoeists, twitchers, hikers, horse riders and fisherfolk.
The Albert Falls Dam is in the Umgeni River, just outside Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. It was established in 1976 in the Albert Falls Nature Reserve. It has a gross capacity of 288,100 cubic metres and a surface area of 23.521 square kilometres. The dam wall is 33 metres high.

The whole area has abundant bird life as well as zebra and several antelope species. Visitors can enjoy game drives at the Msinsi Reserve. In winter Otto's Bluff is worth checking out when the aloes are flowering.
