
The most northern Blue Flag beach in South Africa, Alkantstrand (which means both sides beach) is located in the town of Richards Bay on the eastern coastline of South Africa. This sub-tropical beach is open 365 days of the year with the pleasantly warm Indian Ocean offering safe bathing all year round.
The beach is sandy and should the wind be blowing, shelter can be found within the shelter of the breakwater for the nearby harbour. Lifeguards are on duty throughout the year.
Educational activities will be offered to visitors during the peak summer season. The back beach area offers a restaurant, sheltered tables and seats and a wide grassy area for picnics.
There are barbeque (braai) sites available too.The beach is accessible by those in wheelchairs and there are ablution and parking facilities available for wheelchair users.
