Bartholomeu Dias Museum Complex

The Bartolomeu Dias museum complex was officially opened on 3 February 1989, however the Mossel Bay museum industry can be traced back to the 1960´s when the Mossel Bay museum was first opened. The museum later became known as the Post Tree museum complex before being renamed again in 1989.

Of the five National Monuments on the museum grounds, 4 are buildings dating between 1830 and 1902. The museum grounds themselves situated on the shores of the Indian Ocean are a magnificent historical setting.

The Dias Museum Complex is situated near the beach, shops, restaurants, banks and the tourist information centre

Inside the Maritime Museum is a shop where postcards, stamps, books, souvenirs and small gifts can be bought.

If you would like a tour guide to accompany you, it needs to be arranged prior to your visit. If a tour group would like to visit the museum before or after business hours, this must be arranged with reception prior to your visit.

Open hours:

Monday to Friday: 09:00 to 16:45
Weekends: 09:00 to 15:45
