The Bergkelder Wine Centre in Stellenbosch offers wine lovers 'the best wine experience in the Cape'. This claim is made due to the quality and the number of the wine related offerings available. One of the most advanced and the first of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, this 'cellar in the mountain' was built in 1968. The Bergkelder hugs the steep slopes of the historic Papegaaiberg mountain.
A selection of fine wines, focussing on Fleur du Cap but also offering many others, is available for tasting every day in the wine centre. They are also well known for quality wine tours – these are professionally conducted and are informative and interesting.
The tours are only offered to small groups (max 25 people) so that quality is maintained. Bigger groups can be arranged by prior booking.Tours last about 1 hour and includes a tasting, by candle-light, in the most beautiful cellar. Tours depart four times daily from Mondays to Fridays and three times on Saturdays. During December holidays two extra daily tours are given.
The fine wine shop is open from 08h00 to 17:00 on weekdays and from 09:00 to14h00 on Saturdays.
