The Nel family from Boplaas Family Vineyards in Calitzdorps' new venture to promote top quality Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz under their Cool Bay label was boosted with the Cool Bay Reserve Sauvignon Blanc being awarded the SA Champion Sauvignon Blanc trophy at the 2009 SA Young Wine Show.
The Cool Bay tasting facility is located next to the N2 between George and Mossel Bay (Klein-Brakrivier). Not only are wines from Cool Bay and Boplaas Family Vineyards available, but other wines from the Cape Winemakers Guild and a selection of wines from France, Germany and New Zealand as well.
Boplaas was exporting brandy to London as early as 1880. Currently three classy brandies are made on the estate, namely the Boplaas Pot-still Brandy [five years], Boplaas Pot-still Brandy [seven years] and the Carel Nel Brandy.
Visits include a tasting, and tours to the distillery can be arranged in advance.
