Calverton Lodge

Pine forests, cold, crystal clear mountain water. Waterfalls, rock pools, brown and rainbow trout. Calverton is a premier retreat for the discerning fly fisherman, nestled in the hills southeast of Lydenburg, on the “Alex se Loop” stream and just three and a half hours from Johannesburg.

They encourage barbless fly fishing and ask that any brown trout caught are returned to the waters. The rainbow trout are stocked but the browns have been breeding naturally in the river, “Alex se Loop”, since the 1920's when it was first stocked by Mr Braun.

There are 18 weirs, 3 dams and natural pools in the river, available for the avid fisherman.

They do not charge a rod fee and no limit is put on catch and release. Fish caught and kept are charged at R50.00/kg.

Coaching on the art of fly fishing can be arranged!
