Established in 2003 as the Umtamvuna Mountain Bike Trail Network (UMBT), has become a key feature of what Clearwater Trails is all about. Through an undying passion, sheer hard work and research the mountain biking trail network has become a popular venue for both leisure and competition.
All levels are catered for in terms of varying distance and technicality. You are first introduced to the tracks through the "figure-8" pump track which provides a place to warm up, practice your turns and is just plain fun!
The trails offer a good mix of hand built single track; jeep track and gravel road with options to remain on moderate gradients or attempt the downhill sections and of course the ascent back onto the ridge.
Berms, switchbacks, natural ramps, bridges and water crossings are add to the adventure and test those skills of balance and agility.
The trails not only offer a means to exercise, they are linked to many points of interest and entertainment along the way.
Our trail users encounter the Gorge View Deck, pass over Clearwater's Dam wall, go through Abbott's Wood (a man made indigenous forest), pass the remains of an old crofter's lodging (aptly dubbed the Spook House) and Crags View Wild Care Centre where a magic view of the gorge awaits you.
