Nelson Mandela Bay boasts of being one of the most cosmopolitan and non-racial cities in South Africa.
Ezethu offers you a tour that traces the interaction between the different cultures that have since formed our community from pre-colonial, apartheid era and post liberation times. We help you to gain insight into aspects of our community that have shaped us into being a very dynamic society.
The tour visits various sites including South End, where the community was settled along socio-economic classes not race. We also visit one of South Africa's oldest townships, Red Location that boasts of hosting the internationally acclaimed and award winning Red Location Museum. This is a community that provided the first combatants of Umkhonto Wesizwe (the armed wing of the African National Congress).
We will also visit a Quilters Project based in this community. Hear a beautiful story of how people from across the city collaborated to make this project a shining example of what people can achieve if they work together.
You will have an opportunity to also visit a household in New Brighton and another one in Malabar, a predominantly Indian community. We will taste of the local cuisines from these families.
The tour starts at 10h00 and ends at 14h00 everyday except Sundays.
