Haut Espoir occupies a footslope of the Groot Drakenstein Mountains. The aspect is dominantly south-east with slope gradients from 10% to 20%. The underlying geology is biotite granite of the Cape Granite Suite and the soils are predominantly of the Oakleaf family - coarse sandy loams, which have a high rating for vine growth.
The farm has been planted with noble red cultivars - cabernet sauvignon, shiraz and merlot. For them quality wine starts in the vineyard. Their attention to careful viticulture practices in their own vineyards and those from where they purchase fruit is the foundation of their commitment to premium wine production.
Haut Espoir Estate Wines are made for all occasions. The emphasis is on well structured wines which reflect the classic varietal characteristics, and have subtle but intense fruit flavours. They are the perfect accompaniment to fine foods or can be enjoyed on their own.
Haut Espoir Reserve Wines are from fruit that has been selected from single vineyards, for its potential to produce great wine. With careful, handcrafted attention and oak maturation, the wines are powerful, intense yet soft with remarkable structure.
Haut Espoir welcomes visitors for wine tastings and sales, Monday to Friday from 11am until 5pm and by appointment on weekends.
