Popular Hobie beach, located in the Summerstrand area of Port Elizabeth, is the ideal base from which to explore Port Elizabeth and its beautiful coastline. For the sports enthusiast one can scuba-dive, wind-surf, kite-surf or jet ski in the area.
Hobie Beach, in the vicinity of Shark Rock Pier and the Boardwalk, is the venue for the annual "Splash Festival", as well as the Beach Volleyball and World Boardsailing Championships.
The beach is popular for swimming, sunbathing and body surfing. For those keen to explore the natural wonders of this stretch of coastline, the beach also offers sheltered rock pools with interesting inter-tidal sea life. The main swimming area is sandy with a narrow beach.
With its perfect combination of warm water (average temperatures between 18 – 21 degrees in summer and 15 degrees in the winter), calm seas and beaches patrolled by full trained professional lifeguards during the season (November to April), Hobie beach is a good choice of a beach on which one can enjoy swimming or simply sunbathing.
