Borman’s gallery – Johans Borman Fine Art in Newlands, Cape Town - boasts the likes of Irma Stern and Gerard Sekoto on the walls. Borman is considered unique in that he is one of the few dealers in South Africa that has struck a successful balance between South African masters and contemporary artists.
Borman shies away from art being promoted as a financial investment; for him it is simply created by artists to communicate and not as a financial instrument.
This stately space purveys work of the country's old masters, textbook favourites like Stern, Sekoto, Pierneef and Boonzaaier. Come here to invest for a rainy day or for a history lesson. Not all their artists are six feet under though - they also showcase a few pieces from more contemporary folk like Jacobus Kloppers and Marlene von Dürckheim.
Johans Borman Fine Art features a selection of works by South African Masters and covers a diversity of styles and subject matter.
