Kango Wines is not only Proudly South African, but also a proud representative of the Western Cape’s Klein Karoo and Swartberg regions. The Kango Co-op was founded in 1926 as the Kango Co-operative Tobacco Company. Some half a century later a wine cellar was established to meet the needs of local grape producers. The first grapes were accepted during the 1975 harvest, and the rest, as they say, is history. Today, the harvest yields approximately 3,500 metric tons annually.
Whether you live locally or are passing through, be sure to drop in at the Kango Wijnhuis in Oudtshoorn, to sample their extensive award-winning range of wine, fortified wine, brandy, liqueur and witblits. Built in the traditional Klein Karoo style, the Wijnhuis has a generous, sunny stoep where you can contemplate your options, before making a selection at the shop.
During December, you can enjoy a scrumptious cheese platter along with your glass of wine. The garden has plenty of space for the children to let off steam too.
The flagship wines are from the Swartberg range. Grapes from Prince Albert are bottled as Shiraz and Pinotage. Their brandy is also popular with interesting variations like buchu and honeybush.
