Marakele National Park is set in the heart of the Waterberg Mountains in the scenic Limpopo Province, South Africa. As its Tswana name suggests, Marakele is a 'place of sanctuary' with an outstanding array of bird and wildlife species. Located in the transitional zone between the dry western and moister eastern regions of South Africa, the park boasts with majestic mountain landscapes, grass-clad hills and deep valleys.
Horticulture enthusiasts can enjoy over 765 species of flora at Marakele National Park that include Yellowwood, Cedar trees, 5 metre high Cycads and tree Ferns. Guests can spot large wildlife species such as Elephant, Rhino and Lion as well as an amazing variety of birds like the endangered Cape Vulture, on game drives or adventure walks in hiking trails.
A narrow tar road takes visitors up to the top of the Waterberg massif. Views and scenery are spectacular. One is also in the proximity of the vulture colony and these large birds will soar past at close quarters.
