South African born Niki de Wolf established Moniki Chocolates in 2005. Niki, who is Dutch, lived in Holland for years and returned to South Africa in 2003.
Missing "real" chocolate and hand made bonbons, and as a response to a growing sophistication of gourmet cuisine within South Africa, she started the chocolate business.
The emphasis is on making handmade high quality products using only the best raw and fresh ingredients like butter, fresh cream, nuts and herbs and spices like lavender, rosemary, cardamom, saffron, ginger, black pepper and cinnamon. A good chocolate distinguishes itself by its cacao percentage. Moniki uses mostly Belgian couverture chocolate that contains 70 % cacao.
This is in line with the European style of making chocolate. The result is a chocolate with an intensive flavour and a lingering aftertaste. A feast for the taste buds!
No artificial ingredients or preservatives are used.
