One of the most interesting features of Mooiplaas is the strikingly uneven terrain, from the meadows on the floor of the valley to the watershed on the top of the hills. These topographical contrasts result in interesting differences in microclimate. The different slopes and varying heights must also be considered carefully by the viticulturist when taking that first critical decision - the combination of variety and rootstock for each terroir.
The first wine bottled under the Mooiplaas estate label was the Cabernet Sauvignon 1995.
All wines sold under the Estate label are grown, made and bottled on the estate. Only 20% of their grapes are used for the Mooiplaas label, giving the winemaker, the opportunity to select premium grapes. He has always followed the philosophy of the classic French style of winemaking that focuses on elegance and complexity and reveals the unique character of the terroir.
