Rust en Vreugd

Built in 1778 as a townhouse for the VOC fiscal, this museum is generally accepted to be the finest surviving example of eighteenth-century urban architecture in the country. The delicately carved Rococo-styled fanlight above the main door is ascribed to the German-born sculptor, Anton Anreith. Complementing this graceful home is the period-style garden, landscaped to resemble its original 1786 design.

Declared a heritage site in 1940, historic Iziko Rust en Vreugd, on the edge of Cape Town’s central business district, is home to the William Fehr Collection. This collection of sixteenth- to nineteenthcentury pictorial Africana, which comprises superb watercolours, etchings and lithographs, reflects the history of the Cape and the southern African hinterland.

Opening Hours:

Tuesday to Thursday: 10:00 - 17:00
