Sudwala Caves

The caves are situated in Pre-cumbrian dolomite rocks of the Malmani Group, formed over a period of some 3000 million years. These are amongst the second oldest known sedimentary rocks on the earth, and represented in the cave are fossils of the first oxygen producing plants on the earth, Collenia.

The caves are open daily from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm and the duration of the normal tour is approximately one hour. The maximum wait for a tour is not more than 15 minutes or perhaps you may not wait at all.

The Crystal Tour is something altogether different to the normal tours being only for the really adventurous type. It involves an organized excursion, penetrating into the bowels of Mother Earth and is surprisingly popular! The tour takes you 2000 meters into the cave, culminating on the outskirts of the crystal chamber, with its splendid array of sparkling aragonite crystals.

The tour is literally a once in a lifetime experience, and the route only moderately difficult, meaning there are stretches of crawling involved, through tunnels, some of which contain water, so you must be prepared to get a little wet!

The duration of the tour is approximately 5 hours.

The booking office for tours is at the entrance to the caves and you may pay by cash or credit card on arrival. Also safe and convenient parking facilities, Pierre's Mountain Inn which offers accommodation in a beautiful setting, as well as a restaurant and curio shop.

Specific times for group bookings can be arranged telephonically.
