The Umgeni River Bird Park is situated in a picturesque site between the Umgeni River and rocky cliffs. It was established in 1984 and provides a home for hundreds of species of birds.
The Umgeni River Bird Park features a wide range of exhibits. There are many closed aviaries, walk-in aviaries and ponds which are home to a wide range of waterbirds. New exhibits are added regularly to make sure that visitors keep returning.
One of the highlights of a visit to this bird park is the Free Flight Bird Show. Here the visitor gets a chance to see some of the birds close-up, like the Cape Vulture below, and to be entertained by an informative talk.
Bird show at 11am and 2pm every day.
Play schools, primary and high schools are most welcome to visit. Children will enjoy a visit that is highly educational as well as entertaining and loads of fun.
Schools groups are welcomed at a reduced price when they visit. The kids arrive at the park where they are then taken on a guided tour that is very informative and educational. They will get to see amazing big and colorful birds such as the beautiful South American macaws, elegant flamingoes, comical toucans, the endangered species such as the blue and crowned cranes, hornbills and much, much more.
