Wells Estate is a large recreational centre, approximately 25 km northwards of Port Elizabeth. The complex provides camping facilities, an enclosed swimming pool, water slide and a large area for recreational purposes.
The facilities include lifeguards on duty throughout the season (November to April), first aid room, an education centre and a small outdoor theatre area with stands. The beach is sandy and wide, and can be quite windy in the early summer, furtunately the water is warm.
The raised promenade provides good viewing of dolphins, and whales. This is the first historically "black beach" in the Nelson Mandela Metro to be awarded with Blue Flag status.
During the Soccer World Cup in South Africa in June/July 2010, this beach will be open to visitors and all services will be in place, e.g. lifeguards and security.
