Zandberg Wine Estate in the Stellenbosch Winelands where you can see the Helderberg Mountains behind them, False Bay is about 7 kilometers in a South Westerly direction, Stellenbosch you will find in a Northerly direction and Secretareskop in a Westerly direction which is later followed by Table Mountain.
Zandberg gets lovely fresh sea breazes at around 2 o'clock in the afternoon which then cools our vineyards allowing for a much slower complex development of the fruit with the grapes on the vines. This enables them to harvest at a much later period.
The cellar was built in 1925 and can hold up to 1 million litres of wine. In this short film we are viewing the White Merlot and Dry Rosé being transferred out of the cellar and into a purpose built tank that will then be hauled by the truck to the bottling plant.
The pump used to pump the wine, gently pushes the wine rather than propelling it through a turbine. This results in the wine being less agitated by the transfer.
